I take this opportunity to share some of our findings on dynamic capabilities and collaborative innovations in the context of born-digital SMEs. We define “born-digital” as firms solely based on the digital value chain and business model empowered by the digital technology infrastructure—for example, SMEs digital platforms owners like Waze, Vinted, and Doctolib. They are unique compared to incumbents-born digital businesses because they handle digital technologies' modular and connected nature with scarce resources and use these features as their competitive advantage. Our study provides empirical evidence that: 1) dynamic capabilities have a significant positive impact on both partnership networks and relational collaboration, thus, collaborative innovation; 2) only relational collaboration has a significant positive impact on born-digital SME performance; 3) finally, the relationship between dynamic capabilities and born-digital SME performance is moderated by collaborative innovations in particular relational collaborations.
